1977

The story of Viau Food Products Inc. began at a pizzeria. At the time, Franco Reda was on an unsuccessful quest to find a pepperoni producer worthy of his pizzas. This prompted him to invent his own recipe and launch his own business under the Viau name. He opened his first factory in Montréal-Nord.

1984-1986

In 1984, Franco partnered with Ivano Scattolin to further advance the flourishing business. In 1986, Franco's children, Vira, Enzo and Joe, also joined the Viau family.

1994

Revolution in the world of pizza: Viau innovates by offering different types of pizza toppings for the Canadian restaurant market ; never seen before in the country!

1999

In 1999, Viau acquired the Fantino & Mondello brand and promoted it to consumers in Canada.

2005

The company was so successful that it was driven to expand its facilities, investing in a second factory in the Laval industrial district, where it relocated its head office.

2018

Viau Food Products Inc. was purchased by the reputable Maple Leaf Foods Group. This major announcement will enable Viau to pursue its growth and further develop its product line.

Today

Viau Food Products is a major player in the production of pepperoni and other processed meats in Canada. Now a part of Maple Leaf Foods, the company aims even higher in achieving its goals and mission.

Quality commitment

At Viau, quality and safety are values that define us and that are part of our corporate identity and daily priorities.

HACCP: Viau boasts HACCP certification, which means all its facilities comply with the highest standards for hygiene and food cleanliness. Furthermore, Viau boasts an ISO 17025-certified in-house laboratory to ensure oversight of production and cleanliness.

SQF-GFSI: The SQF (Safe Quality Food), recognized by the GFSI, is a food cleanliness and safety system. At Viau, we have this SQF certification, and a full-time dedicated in-house team oversees compliance with these standards daily.

Drying room

The environment in our drying rooms is meticulously controlled to enable the products to slowly and soundly acquire their unique flavours that make them stand out. We never rush the drying process because it is the source of our distinctive quality.

HPP

Food safety is paramount at our facilities - we are equipped with machinery that operates the HPP (High Pressure Pasteurization) operation, a process that eliminates all pathogenic microorganisms without requiring the addition of unnecessary preservatives.

Raw materials

At Viau, we strive to purchase raw materials primarily from within Canada. Furthermore, the meat we use complies with Canadian animal welfare standards.

Laboratory

We have our own state-of-the-art laboratories and a full-time team in place to ensure the consistency, quality and cleanliness of all products made at our facilities.
